On January 16, Voices of Excellence worked together with the Springfield Community Foundation service program to put on a show for Martin Luther King, Jr., Day. This was the second annual celebration at our high school, and with each passing year, the audience grows.
Ms. Lewis says that MLK Day was originally meant for students to give back to their community in a positive manner.  Those involved with the Voices of Excellence program honored Dr. King by performing a variety dances and songs.  Phil Ianozi sang “Let It Be” by The Beatles. Diamyn Trawick, Saiyonna Bryant, and Imani Cambell performed an interpretive dance.
Voices of Excellence did the Negro National Anthem, “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” led by Kierra Westray. Alexis Gbemudu received the Springfield Foundation Award for Community Service. Students receive this award by exemplifying that they have greatly contributed to the community in a constructive way.
